Hurdle offers the only culturally intentional telemental health care designed for people of color and other minority groups. Hurdle empowers organizations to provide their employees/members with culturally informed mental health services, including digitally accessible self-mastery tools, wellness workshops, and teletherapy.  In this way, we support diverse populations who are underserved by traditional resources. We exist to ensure that individuals can show up whole, operate with joy, and live with power. 

About the position.
You will work in the team of software engineers who have everything that’s needed to get new product features and improvements delivered to our clients and clinical staff. You have experience building feature rich native or web UIs that integrate with backend web layers, APIs, and/or databases. 

About the stack:

Hurdle’s stack is currently :

  • MongoDB/Mongoose ORM/Node.JS backend
  • ReactJS web front end
  • React Native mobile front end
  • Integration with 3rd party EHR

While this is our stack today, we are actively looking to evolve the experience for our clients and providers and build a foundation we can scale.


  • Experience with the technologies in our stack.
  • Experience building Enterprise SaaS applications on public cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Building and consuming robust scalable REST APIs
  • Microservices architecture
  • Agile Scrum development methodology and tools (Jira, Zendesk, CI/CD tools and processes)
  • Experience integrating with backend data stores such as third party APIs or databases 
  • A preference for writing quality code with tests and leaving the code base better than how you found it.
  • Experience continuously delivering and debugging production level code, addressing issues in Production environment promptly as necessary. 
  • Comfortable communicating with engineers, clinical, and operations staff to solve open-ended problems.
  • Experience managing third party vendors

Preferred Experience.

  • Experience in an early stage startup environment.
  • Data modeling for non-SQL databases
  • Mobile apps development and deployment 
  • Experience with building or integrating with EHR/EMR platforms
  • Experience establishing and maintaining engineering processes in highly compliant environments (HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC1/2, ISO200)
  • Experience working with healthcare data, healthcare technology, and clinical staff.

Location: Preference for candidates located in Washington, DC or mid-Atlantic but not required. Once safe, frequent travel to DC will be expected for this position.
